Since i’ve seen it on at least 2 very popular posts now:

when you’re making jokes about sexist men, or sexist racist white men, and laughing about how can they possibly be so dense — i.e., when you’re mocking the kind of illogic that sexism and racism promote

it is neither nice nor accurate to joke that they “don’t have object permanence”.

babies don’t have object permanence. i’ve seen this wielded as a witty retort against, for example, men who think makeup is ‘tricking’ them.

actually, a lot of cognitively disabled people of all ages lack object permanence, in varying degrees. (i’m 23! hi!) and sure, it’s a petty thing, but there are lots of jokes you can make without implying that this impairment is somehow the problem, as opposed to y’know, people being sexist and racist.

furthermore, acting like any prejudice is somehow a product of immaturity is blatantly untrue and i think a dangerous assumption to make.
